It's a pretty late post but it's always better than never ;)
Two days later after I arrived in Korea, it was Chuseok!!
To be exact, September 8th
what a lovely good timing I have came <3
Long story short Chuseok is like American's Thank's giving
It's full of LOVE & FOOD :D
All the families and relatives gather together and have a feast!
Well, that was my definition of Chuseok lol
Wikipedia said:
Chuseok (Korean: 추석),[1] originally known as hangawi (한가위, from archaic Korean for "the great middle (of autumn)"), is a major harvest festival and a three-day holiday in Korea celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. Like many other harvest festivals around the world, it is held around the Autumn Equinox.
As a celebration of the good harvest, Koreans visit their ancestral hometowns and share a feast of Korean traditional food such as songpyeon and rice wines such as sindoju and dongdongju.
Usually, the family gather at the oldest son's place, if that makes sense?
For our family, my grandpa is the oldest among his sibling so, the event is hold at my grandparent's place
It's a good thing that we don't have to drive down somewhere cuz during this holiday traffic is CRAY CRAY
SERIOUSLY...
But it's bad again.. sort of? cuz most of the time my grandma and I have to prepare the food.
I mean, I like cooking and I don't think it's that difficult to do it
It just time consuming that's all
I've been helping ma grandma since elementary school so nothing really new about it hahahaha

This is like pancake make out of mung bean batter with bracken, chives, and bean sprouts on top.
It calls 녹두전 [Nokdu jeon]
It took me like 2 hours to do the whole batter...
Stupid enough to forget to take a photo of the a pile of my 녹두전 masterpiece

For Thanksgiving, majority of the household eats Turkey
Chuseok, every household have different dishes that they make.
This Chicken dish it my grandma's specialty!
The sauce is amazing! it's made out of soy sauce, garlic, hot red pepper, sugar, and black pepper.
There's no special ingredients which makes it even special :D

I believe because of the confucianism culture and Buddhism culture, we do this ritual 제사 [jesa].
The food is set up from dark red color from the right side and it goes lighter to the left I think.
Fruits are closer to our side and rice&soup is closer to the other side for our ancestor.

To be honest, I'm not really award of the history and why we do certain stuff.
I have been told it's to show our respect to our ancestors and thanking them for protecting us.
Oh, and if you notice or not from the photos only guys do the ceremony.

Ladies are in the back at the kitchen setting up the food to eat after the guys are done with the ceremony.

There's rice, soup, seasoned anchovy with hot pepper, galbi, chicken, japchae, three different kind of jeons, kimchi, and seasoned vegetables.

There're some traditional game or stuff we do during this holiday but I think this is the most common one that every single household would do I believe lol
고스톱 [gostop]
Simply, it's Korean version of card games hahahahaha
When the betting gets higher, it gets intense 😯
